About
Who we are. Why we serve.
The President’s Commission on White House Fellowships recommends highly motivated, outstanding individuals for appointment by the President of the United States.
Mission
The purpose of the White House Fellows program is to provide gifted and highly motivated young Americans with some first-hand experience in the process of governing the Nation and a sense of personal involvement in the leadership of society.
Authority
President Lyndon B. Johnson established the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships by Executive Order 11183 on October 3, 1964. The order, as amended, directs the Commission to identify superbly qualified candidates of exceptional promise and recommend them to the President for appointment as White House Fellows.
The Commission
Commissioners are appointed by the President and represent a wide range of professions and backgrounds. The Commission sets selection standards, interviews National Finalists, and recommends candidates for the program.
The program office administers applications, selection process, the Fellowship year, placement, and the education program. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management provides administrative support to the Commission and the program office.
